Intermediate/Advanced Bagpipe Weekend
Our popular Bagpipe workshop weekend returns in 2026, running alongside the Hurdy Gurdy Weekend, in a frenzy of reeds, drones and buzzing things!
This year’s intermediate/advanced course will be led by Sébastien Brebion (Fr). This workshop will be the opportunity to study the specific ornamentation of the Cornemuse du centre! There'll be a focus on technique - rappels, vibratos and other finger gymnastics - but musicality will be the main aim. You’ll take traditional melodies and some compositions to play with rappel, roulades, vibrés…
Outside the workshops, there will be plenty of opportunity to socialise with the other tutors and participants not in your group.
Want to make a long weekend of your trip? For an extra £65, you can stay until Monday morning, including supper and B&B. Please enquire when booking.
This course runs alongside the Beginner Bagpipe Weekend for those not quite ready for the Intermediate / Advanced course.
Who is it for?
Any players of G/C bagpipes who consider themselves to be working at an intermediate or advanced level.
The Team
Sébastien Brebion (fr) started his formation at the music academy of Calais in the jazz guitar class before discovering the traditional music from the center of France. He then started learning bagpipes with Michel Lebreton and Renaud Hibon to become a teacher himself in another music school in Hauts de France. In parallel, he continued his guitar formation until his graduation in classical guitar. His encounters with musicians from different musical universes made him open to multiple styles and aesthetics. He played in several bands from traditional music from Ireland, Scotland and Berry to medieval music and jazz.
