Regency for Rookies
Take your first steps into the elegant world of Regency dance. You'll learn the key steps that form the foundation of the style and explore a range of popular dances from the era, including country dances, cotillions and quadrilles.
As the weekend unfolds, you'll develop the skills and confidence to take to the floor at two evening Regency balls. Regency dress is entirely optional, but if you've ever fancied dressing the part, this is the perfect opportunity!
Who is it for?
Whether you’re completely new to the world of dance in the time of Jane Austen, you've already been to a Regency ball and would like to understand the dancing better, or are simply curious to discover what it's all about, this weekend is for you.
No previous dance experience is needed, and everyone is welcome. Designed especially for beginners and improvers, this course is the ideal introduction to Regency dance.
The Team
Georgia Delve is a professionally trained dancer, ballet teacher and historical dance caller specialising in the social country dances of the Regency and wider Georgian periods. She has performed in historical productions for television and film, choreographed for stage productions in the UK and abroad, and is passionate about keeping historical dance alive. Her teaching is informative, encouraging and carefully tailored to the experience and confidence of everyone in the room. Together with Matthew Coatsworth, she has researched and interpreted dances featured in two books, The Warleggan Assembly and The Scaramouch, both accompanied by recordings by the Warleggan Village Band.
The Warleggan Village Band (Richard Heacock, Matthew Coatsworth and Chris Green) first came together in 2014 to perform the dance music for the BBC's Poldark. Since then, they have become firm favourites at Halsway and across the UK, as well as appearing in Netflix's Bridgerton. Renowned for their imaginative, spirited performances of English country dance music from the Playford period through to the Regency era, they bring warmth, energy and joy to every dance floor.
