Spring Fiddle Weekend - Intermediate/Advanced

Our Summer Fiddle Weekend is dedicated to developing your fiddle playing through a range of repertoire and a deep dive into fiddle technique. We want you to go home with ideas and skills that you can implement into your playing for years to come!

We’re delighted to welcome the amazing team of Anna and Rowan Rheingans to work with any player who considers themself to be playing at an intermediate or advanced level.

During the weekend, Anna and Rowan will lead fiddle workshops which explore repertoire of specific regions of Sweden and France. Anna will demonstrate and explore the interesting characteristics of rhythm and tonality in dance music traditions from the Auvergne and Occitanie, and teach a variety of favourite tunes to accompany the theory. Rowan will draw on the dance music repertoire from regions of Sweden and elsewhere, focussing on interpretation, opportunities and practical techniques for improvisation and expressing artistic individuality as a folk musician.

If you are a beginner or an improver, check out our Beginners and Improvers Course instead – same dates, same place.

In addition to all the course content and wisdom that Anna and Rowan will impart, you’ll be welcome to use our extensive folk library to discover tunes that you’d like to work on. There will be plenty of time to play together on this intensive weekend of workshops for fiddle players.

Who is it for?

This is an intensive weekend for adult fiddle players who consider themselves to be at Level 3 or 4 in their playing journey. Check our Fiddle Playing Levels if you’re not sure whether that’s you.

The Team

The Rheingans Sisters are a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning duo and one of the most visionary acts on the British folk scene today. The heart of their musical creation and collaborative practice stems from years of deep exploration of specific folk traditions from Northern Europe, particularly the dance music of Sweden, Norway and Southern France: regions where they have both individually lived and studied, and continue to explore together.
